Adults with learning disabilities engaged in a skills development session
Education & skills development

Building Skills. Building Futures.

We support adults with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs to develop the skills, confidence, and independence they need to live a fulfilling life.

Why education and skills development matters

Education is about far more than qualifications. For adults with learning disabilities, autism, or complex needs, developing practical life skills, building confidence, and finding meaningful activity can be transformative, opening doors to greater independence, employment, and a stronger sense of purpose.

At McLaren Healthcare, we believe every person has the capacity to learn, grow, and achieve. Our education and skills development support is built around each individual, their interests, their goals, and their own pace of progress.

What our education support includes

Our support is flexible, person centred, and designed to build on each individual's strengths.

Life skills development

From cooking and budgeting to using public transport and managing a home, we support individuals to build the practical skills that underpin independent living.

Literacy and numeracy

Tailored support to develop reading, writing, and numeracy skills, at the individual's own pace, using approaches that work for them.

Digital skills

Supporting individuals to use technology confidently, from smartphones and email to online services and social connection.

Communication and social skills

Building confidence in communication, social interaction, and self-advocacy, helping individuals to express themselves and engage with their community.

Vocational skills and employment pathways

Exploring work interests, building CVs, practising interviews, and connecting with volunteering and employment opportunities that match the individual's strengths.

Creative and leisure activities

Art, music, sport, and other creative pursuits that build confidence, wellbeing, and a sense of achievement, as valuable as any formal qualification.

Employment: support for an independent future

Work builds confidence, purpose, and independence. A job is more than a wage. It is a place to grow, meet people, and achieve personal goals. We support individuals to discover what kind of work suits them, develop job ready skills at their own pace, and take positive steps towards meaningful employment.

People we support have gone on to work in a wide range of settings, from shops and cafés to creative industries, charities, and office roles. With the right support, employment is possible and powerful.

Our approach

Everything we do is person centred. We start by getting to know the individual, their goals, their interests, and the barriers they face. We then build a support plan that is genuinely tailored to them, not a one size fits all programme.

We work at the individual's pace, celebrate every achievement, however small, and adjust our approach as their needs and goals evolve. Progress is measured against the person's own aspirations, not external benchmarks.

Person centred

Every support plan is built around the individual's own goals and aspirations.

Strengths based

We focus on what people can do, and build from there.

At your pace

There is no fixed timeline. Progress is celebrated at every stage.

Joined up

We work alongside families, social workers, and other professionals to ensure a consistent approach.
